About the performers

Bill Lewis –

Bill  Lewis was one of the near legendary Medway Poets Group along with Billy Childish, Sexton Ming, Charles Thomson and Rob Earl.

He has performed his  poems in Europe, Latin America and North  America and has been published in magazines, journals and  anthologies all over the world. Some of his poems have been translated into  Spanish and his short stories into German.

In addition, Lewis has been  broadcast on television and radio on both sides of the Atlantic and has carried  out readings, workshops and lectures at Literary Festivals (including the  International Cambridge Poetry Festival), hospitals, prisons, schools and
universities and he was the first Writer-in-Residence at the Brighton Festival
(1985).

Lewis was one of the original 13 founder members of the Stuckist  Movement. He has since gone on to disseminate the ideas and theories that have emerged from Remodernism.

He has exhibited his paintings in various  galleries in Paris London, Berlin, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Kentucky and was featured in the ‘Punk Victorian’  exhibition at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool.

Roy Smith

Roy Smith lives in the Medway Towns. He works with young people and sometimes writes stuff. He is regularly interrupted by his dog and the desire to play classic video games.

Matthew Ladbrooke

‘Singer/songwriter from maidstone from Paperfriend. Loves Johnny cash, red jumpsuit apparatus and you me and six. I love music to change and impact peoples moods and make people think’

Rea Q

Hailing from South London, Rea’s heritage is as diverse as the area she was brought up, having English, Irish and South African roots. She grew up in a musical family, and so writing her first song aged 3 and taking a lead role alongside her father in a music video seemed pretty normal!

After many years of writing songs, studying music (she learnt Classical piano, clarinet and singing whilst at school), gaining a Degree and PGCE in Music, Rea is (at last!) soon to be releasing her debut EP, ‘8 Hours’. She describes her style as piano driven, melodic, pop songs with heart and soul reminiscent of a cross between Kate Bush, Sara Bareilles, Fiona Apple and Delta Goodrem. For Rea, song writing has been a constant source of therapy and as with life the journey is as important as the destination. She is excited to share her music with others and express both the joy and pain of being human.

Anaconda Bellydance

Anaconda are award winning and one of Kent’s favourite belly dance troupes .Specialising in contemporary and traditional Egyptian  belly Romany, folkloric and theatrical dance , taking Arabic fusion to a new level . Today you’ll see them going back in time for some messy 18th century French fun !! And at Maidstone museum in October, you can catch them doing something slightly gruesome and macabre !!! find Anaconda on Facebook and online for details

Daniel Son

“Straight outta” Maidstone, rapper/producer Daniel Son’s capabilities are vast. Depending on his environment you could catch him delivering a barrage of ruthless punchlines, a vibrant array of tongue-in-cheek hilarity or keeping it “real” with some grounded, heartfelt urban poetry. Dan is a diverse artist with so much more to offer than Hip Hop as you know it.

Rosie Ord

A quirky kinda girl with an unusual outlook on life, Rosie Ord gives a whole new meaning to the word ‘soul’. It will take only a matter of seconds before you are lured into a dreamlike state and put under her spell. Inspired by the likes of Billie Holiday and David Bowie, this jazz/blues artist uses a combination of covers and originals in her set. Kick back relax, for you are in for a treat… however listen carefully and you might notice her lyrics are not always so sweet.

Mooi

Newly formed Maidstone based accapella group ‘Mooi’ love music and love to sing. This mutual love has brought together a diverse group of people from as far as Netherlands and Nigeria who create harmonious sounds using only their voices.

Jazmin Qunta –

Jazmin O’shea is a folk/acoustic singer songwriter from London.  Mainly inspired by Joni Mitchell,  Jazmin’s songs tell stories of the highs and lows of life. Raw and organic, with her unique voice and guitar. The debut 3 track EP ‘Life in HD’ is set to be released later this year.
